Roberta Olson of the Eagle-Raven Clan - renowned Haida Chef

You will experience what has been enjoyed by travelers from around the world - a Haida feast savoured while surrounded by Haida art. It comes after a day in Skidegate, where you can explore Haida culture, or just wander soaking up the rustic ambience.

Roberta's banquets are an amazing display of colour, texture and taste, prepared
in the traditional methods of the Haida. The variety of tasty dishes served were typical of those served during a Haida "potlatch".

Your Haida menu: A delicious variety of smoked salmon, fresh halibut, prawns, crab, octopus, clams, an excellent local caviar served on kelp, a variety of potatoes, vegetables and rice, rhubarb chutney, Indian bread, and some unique and scrumptious desserts.

Copper Sky's crew highly recommend Roberta's incredible cuisine, and we are not the only ones. Among the many travelers who have enjoyed the experience of Keenawii's Kitchen are the Princess of Japan, Ambassador of Sweden and ecologist & television personality David Suzuki.

Overlooking Skidegate Inlet, you are surrounded by the artwork of Roberta and her sons - Haida prints, carvings and oil paintings adorn Roberta's home, where you can see eagles and gray whales feeding from her sundeck.

Skidegate: Haida Museum & Carving Shed

We suggest you begin your visit to Skidegate with a tour of the Haida Museum & Cultural Centre. Walking among the exhibits of the museum, you cannot help but be struck by the cultural and artistic significance of the Haida nation. Carved masks, intricate embroidery, cultural artifacts and ancient totems are testament to the unique identity of a culture forged by the land and the sea over thousands of years. Renowned Haida artist works are also in the museum, including those by renowned Haida artist, Bill Reid.

Continue your tour with a visit to the nearby carving shed. You may stand and watch the progress of the craftsmen's carving, just as others have watched and learned for thousands of years.

We suggest arriving a day ahead to get settled, and visiting Skidegate & Roberta's the next day. Cost for extra night, taxi or shuttle to/from ferry, Museum, Charlotte, and Roberta's, including dinner and a picnic lunch is approximately $140. For reservations, please call Roberta at 250 - 559-8347
